Welcome! Therapy is a wonderful beginning to finding balance in your life- mind, body and spirit. It’s wonderful to see you taking this opportunity to improve quality of life for yourself or a loved one! Here’s a bit about me to hopefully ease apprehension about this journey! I have been a clinical therapist for almost 8 years now and am a new member of the Specialty Counseling team! I have a Bachelor’s Degree in both Psychology and Theatre and a Masters in Community Counseling. I have been privileged to work with an array of people and issues including substance issues, marital and relationship issues, career, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, mood and thought disorders, spiritual concerns, suicidal ideation, self-harm and many other concerns clients have come to therapy for over the past years. One would have to work hard to surprise me at this point- that’s not a challenge…I’ve just heard a lot!
I’ve worked with age ranges from 3 – 87 and everywhere in between. I tend to use an array of therapeutic approaches depending on your needs and how you feel most comfortable approaching them. Individuals should be at the center of their therapy experience! I am trained in play therapy, art therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), sleep hygiene and dream interpretation, sexual abuse and domestic violence, substance therapy including relapse prevention and motivational interviewing as well as other approaches that get too numerous to mention and probably too boring for you to read through quite frankly!
In my spare time….ha!…no seriously, when I’m not at the office I love on my two beautiful daughters and patient husband. They are the light of my life and I thank God for them every day! There is also a local high school drama club I assistant coach for. It’s like having 15 more children who are all teenagers- and I love it! I spend my summers either directing or acting with the Platte County Players and try to get some camping and fishing in-between. We enjoy going back to Nebraska where we were born and raised. Yes, I am a Husker fan. I just thought I’d get that out there now for a full disclosure! Being raised in a farm setting, I enjoy long walks in the pasture, gourmet sunflower seeds at a truck pull and have spent many a contemplating hour in a tractor or walking behind a cow! I also enjoy good books, museums, art, literature and history. Its good to be well rounded!
All in all, my hope is that you enjoy your therapy experience and find relief of the symptoms that bring you into counseling. I look forward to being able to work with you to serve as your guide to the path to self-fulfillment and life satisfaction!
